'Dedh Ishqiya' round-up review

When a Madhuri Dixit-Nene returns to the big screen, it’s bound to create waves at the box office. However, what will the reviews say? The lady returns in ‘Dedh Ishqiya’ which released today, a sequel to ‘Ishqiya’ (2010). Also starring Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi and Huma Qureshi, the film is directed by Abhishek Chaubey. BizAsia presents some snippets from the reviews the film has received.

Filmfare‘s Rachit Gupta states, “…Credit to director Chaubey and his co-writers Vishal Bhardwaj and Gulzar. They۪ve come up with quite a colourful montage of cinematic gems. Dedh Ishqiya is a taut film. It۪s a worthy comeback for Madhuri Dixit Nene. It۪s a great start to the movie calendar year.”

Saibal Chatterjee, NDTV, writes, “Dedh Ishqiyais in many respects appreciably more enthralling thanIshqiya…Notwithstanding the title, there are no half measures inDedh Ishqiya.”

Hindustan Times‘ Anupama Chopra says, “There are nawabs, sher-o-shairi, and a courtly old-world romance but make no mistake, this is a twisted theatre of the absurd in which the gamut of human folly – greed, decadence, deceit, stupidity – is laid out for us…Still, Dedh Ishqiya is worth watching just for Abhishek Chaubey’s ambition”.

Meena Iyer, Times of India, reviews, “Vishal Bharadwaj’s dialogue keeps you in splits…falls short on the oomph meter, as compared to Vidya Balan inIshqiya.”

Overall reviews suggest that this movie is an ideal comeback vehicle for Dixit-Nene whose films always carry the biggest expectations.
