Ritesh Sidhwani remains optimistic for ‘Gully Boy’ at Oscars

Only five days to go until the shortlist for the 92nd Academy Awards is out, and ‘Gully Boy’ (2019) Producer Ritesh Sidhwani remains optimistic.

Reported on Asian Age, Sidhwani is keeping everything crossed and hopes the film will make it onto the shortlist, “We hope the film gets shortlisted. We are trying very hard to bring the film to the forefront. Zoya is back now (from Morocco). We are doing everything within our power to leave no stone unturned. The first shortlist will be out on 15th December, after which we will be battling it out with the others if we are in that list.”

Although feeling anxious, Sidhwani said he has a good feeling about ‘Gully Boy’ (2019), “Maybe, we will get the award this time. Maybe, we will be the first Indian film to do so.” In the past, films such as ‘Mother India’ (1957), ‘Salaam Bombay’ (1988) and ‘Lagaan: Once Upon A Time In India’ (2001) sadly didn’t get through.

‘Gully Boy’ (2019) was directed by Zoya Akhtar with Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in lead roles. The films revolves around the life of an aspiring Indian street rapper from the Dharavi slums.
