Rishi Kapoor & Ranbir Kapoor were to star in Gujarati film remake

Bollywood lost one of its biggest legends back in April following the death of Rishi Kapoor, leaving the industry and fans in shock and tears. Now it has emerged that the late star would have starred in an exciting family film with none other than his son, Ranbir Kapoor.

Reports say that the father and son duo were in talks for a remake of Gujarati film, ‘Chaal Jeevi Laiye’ (2019), reports Box Office Worldwide. A source was quoted as saying, “Rishi Kapoor had seen the film and had loved it. So when he was approached for its remake, he showed keen interest. He also convinced Ranbir Kapoor to play the role of the son.”

Ritesh Laalan, CEO of Coconut Motion Pictures and the production house that made the original film said, “Yes, we were planning to cast Rishi sir and Ranbir Kapoor in the Hindi remake. We initiated talks with Rishi’s manager in March, just before the lockdown. But everything went on a backburner due to the pandemic. And then sadly, Rishi sir passed away.” However Laalan did confirm that they had not begun discussions with Ranbir to officially be part of the project.

He added, “It would have been a great casting coup. Viewers would have surely connected with the casting and the storyline more so when they would have seen both of them playing father and son. Not just viewers, even Rishi sir and Ranbir would have also been able to relate with the storyline.”
