When it comes to reprising classics, be it films, songs or even characters, the pressure of how well it will be received can be extremely daunting. So when Rishi Kapoor gave his approval for the recreation of his hit classic song ‘Tayyab Ali’, that appears in ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara’, actor Imran Khan, who is seen dancing to the famous number, couldn’t be more relieved.

After viewing the song Kapoor was very impressed with Khan’s performance, and when they met was all praise for the young actor. NDTVreported Khan talking about the encounter, “What happened was that I was leaving after dubbing for this film and Rishiji was sitting there as he had the next dubbing shift. So I met him and I was complimenting him on his performance in ‘D-Day’.” “Suddenly he said, ‘You have done my song, ‘Tayyab Ali’. I asked him hesitantly, ‘Did you like it?’ and he was like, ‘Why are you afraid, you have done it so well. Well done, don’t be scared!'”

The orignal song from the 1977 hit classic ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, has Kapoor singing and dancing with Neetu Singh. Khan went onto add, “I was very thrilled because it is such an iconic song and when you are trying to recreate a song like that, obviously you will be nervous. You think that – ‘Those who like the original song… will they like it?”

Despite getting praises for the song from everyone, it was Kapoor’s in particular that Khan was most grateful for, “The biggest stamp of approval came from Rishiji himself. I was very honoured.”

As far as re-visiting classics go, we can all say without a doubt, that Khan has definitely done it well.
