Republic Digital apologies for publishing incorrect video against Congress
Republic Digital, the online division of Republic TV, has been compelled to issue an apology after facing police complaints from two individuals, including an Indian Youth Congress worker, against BJP Information Technology department head Amit Malviya and journalist Arnab Goswami.
The complainants have accused them of “masterminding a criminally motivated campaign” to spread “false information”, alleging that the Congress party has an office in Türkiye.
On 15th May, Republic Digital aired a visual on its digital platform that “erroneously” depicted a building as the Congress party’s office in Türkiye. The clip was subsequently shared on X by Malviya.
In his complaint, Swaroop alleged that Malviya and Goswami had orchestrated a “heinous and criminally motivated campaign” to disseminate “patently false information”, with the intent to “deceive the Indian public, defame the Congress, manipulate nationalist sentiments, incite public unrest, and undermine national security.”
The complaint further stated, “The actions of Mr Malviya and Mr Goswami represent an unprecedented attack on India’s democratic foundations, public safety, and national security. Their calculated misuse of influence to spread falsehoods with criminal intent demands the harshest response.”
