Ranveer Singh feels “blessed” to play Kapil Dev

Whilst Ranveer Singh has been told to stay relatively mute over the controversy of ‘Padmavati’, it hasn’t stopped him from talking about his upcoming films. Singh will be playing Kapil Dev in the forthcoming film on the 1983 World Cup victory and has said how blessed he feels to be part of the movie.

The actor was selected by director Kabir Khan to essay the role of Dev and he has expressed his gratitude that this chapter in the cricketing world is finally being told. “We are happy and blessed that we have got such as opportunity to tell the story of these great sporting heroes. They are amazing people and I am damn happy that a film on this glorious chapter is finally happening. Lastly, I admit it’s an unbelievable feeling that I am playing Kapil Dev. It’s really exciting”, said the actor as interviewed in HindustanTimes.

The actor is keen for  the sporting hero to give him some tips for playing the game and  is already preparing for the physical transformation that will be required. Whilst cricket is India’s favourite sport, what Singh is excited about is showcasing the important role that the underdog cricket team played in making cricket the loved sport it is today. “Honestly speaking, till the time Kabir told me the story of the victory, I didn’t know that whatever cricket is today, it’s because of that turning point in our sports history. And there is a whole generation including me, who had no idea about it” said Singh.

No doubt Singh will apply all the passion and energy he is known for in making this film a must-watch.
