Ever since it was confirmed that Subhash Ghai’s ‘Ram Lakhan’ (1989) would soon be remade, there have been many rumours speculating the cast. The actors of the original 80’s blockbuster, Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff, feel that Ranveer Singh and Sidharth Malhotra would respectively be the perfect choices for the title roles.

Speaking toDNA India, Kapoor, whose portrayal of Lakhan was a benchmark in his career, said,”I feel who is best for the film commercially, they should cast him… If I was a producer, I would cast Ranveer as Lakhan. Ram would be Sidharth Malhotra because of the intensity.”

Shroff, who originally essayed the role of Ram, also feels Sidharth Malhotra would be the perfect choice to step into hisrole now. He said, “I think Sidharth would be a very good choice. I have worked with him in Brothers and I۪ve seen that he has the same level of sincerity that I had. Ram is someone who is very respectful to his mother, very loving to his brother and yet, is very strict as a police officer. He has all these qualities and I am sure will do a good job.”

Interestingly, while Kapoor feels Ranveer Singh would be perfect for the role of Lakhan, many rumours have suggested the makers are considering Kapoor’s nephew, Arjun Kapoor. On this, the senior actor states, “Ifeel Arjun can, but it will be too close. There will be comparisons. Better someone from outside the family does it.”

Neither of the senior actorshave an issue with the film being remade, though Kapoor does feel it is a “business proposition… not a creative decision”. While the original director of the film, Subhash Ghai, is also associated with the remake, it is being produced by Karan Johar and directed by Rohit Shetty. The remake is slated for release in 2016.
