As far as film franchises go, it seems everyone wants to make second and even third instalments to their films. One name in particular is Rani Mukherji, whose next venture releases today is already talking of making a sequel.

‘Mardaani’ tells the story of a police officer played by Mukherji, who deals with the issues on the trafficking of young girls. NDTVreported Mukherji stating, “I want girls to enrol in self-defence classes like karate, kickboxing etc. I hope the film works, so that we can come up with ‘Mardaani-2’and tell another story that will make an impact. I also think more films like ‘Mardaani’should be made.”

She goes onto say how through the film she want to put across a very important message, “‘Mardaani’carries a message on women empowerment. It is time women should take up matters like self-protection into their own hands. I don’t want any girl to be dependent on her father or brother to go somewhere just because she is scared.”

Set for release on August 22, the film received an A certificate which means it is not classed suitable for anyone under the age of 18.

In obvious disagreement with the censor board, Mukherji wants girls of all ages to be able to watch the film and be inspired to stand up for themselves, as she went onto say, “I would love to see people, especially women and girls, across all age groups watching the film. The film will inspire girls to speak their mind, be brave and bring out their ‘mardaana’ (brave and bold) spirit.”
