Rani Mukerji opens up about cousin Kajol

Rani Mukerji MDK

Rani Mukerji started out her Bollywoodcareer with second cousin Kajol in their film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ (1998). Since then, there have been utmost comparisons between the two,and moststories have been written about their chemistry off screen, rather than on. Both Kajoland Mukherji have had many questions thrown at them, questioning their ‘distant’ relationship, but to the Hindustan Times, she clarifies that Kajol is her didi and has always respected her.

Mukerji feels it’s being in the same profession that causes so much talk and that Kajol is not her only cousin in the industry, “I call her Kajol didi. I don’t think there is anything to be speculated about our relationship. Things are blown out of proportion because we come from the same field, same profession. There are so many cousinsof mine but people obviously don’t talk about how my camaraderie is with them. Thankfully, we both (Kajol and Rani) understand that.”

Mukerji says that it should be understandable that Kajol and her are not from the same age group. The age difference was the reason why she was closer to Kajol’s youngersister Tanisha, while Mukerji’s brother Raja, was closer to Kajol. She respects Kajol as she’s always had. “It’s as if we should be kissing, hugging each other all the time. Kajol and I have a different family and set of friends. Today, when we meet at a family function or at our family Durga Puja, once a year, I think we are very warm to each other. We share the same vibes and I respect her the way I did earlier.”
