Rani Mukerji on choosing more content driven films

Rani Mukerji believes that more leading actresses should back content driven scripts and not it play safe with the type of films they choose to do.

Reported by DNA India, Mukerji who made her comeback after the birth of her daughter, with ‘Hichki’ (2018), says in today’s cinema any film can become a super hit, which has good content. “It’s important to do that because only when you back the project will it see the light of the day. When you come across a script that you, in your gut, feel strongly about, you have to take it on irrespective of what some people may tell you. There have been so many examples last year itself where these beliefs have been proved wrong. Today, there can’t be a distinction that a film is big or small. Ab koi bhi movie badi ho sakti hai, depending on the content.”

Asked if she would look into directing a project herself, Mukerji shares she hasn’t ruled it out, “Let Adira grow up a bit. I am happy being an actor right now.”

The new phase of the digital platform, has taken off massively. Showing as a growing market there is more demand, with many leading Bollywood A-lister’s now entering this arena. Saif Ali Khan will return with the second season of Sacred Games soon, now news of Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan also signing up for future projects, Mukerji was asked if she would consider doing the same? “I would love to do something (on one for the digital platforms). But my decision to do a project is driven by the content because as an actor I have to try all the mediums.”

Mukerji will be returning in her cop avatar in the sequel to ‘Mardaani’ (2016) later this year.
