Rani Mukerji gets candid about husband Aditya Chopra

Rani Mukerji recently appeared on the TV chat show ‘Vogue BFFs’, hosted by Neha Dhupia, where she gave some candid revelations about her husband Aditya Chopra, who is mostly very reserved as a person.

Reported on Deccan Chronicle, Mukerji was asked if she curses or abuses anyone, and her answer to that was, “Yes, I do. I curse my husband every day; I abuse my husband every day (laughs)!”. But Mukerji quickly points out the cursing and abusing is not based on hate, “He does such loving things that the cursing comes out with love! So, in my family when we curse, we curse with love. We don’t curse with hate. If I curse somebody, that means I really love that person.”

Asked to rate her husband as a director, Mukherji states “He is the best.” Chopra has had a number super hit films under his belt, but wasn’t so successful with his last ‘Befikre’ (2017) starring Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor.

Moving on to talk about how the couple first met, Mukherji shared it was during ‘Mujhse Dosti Karoge’ (2002), “After having faced failure for a couple of my films, luckily ‘Mujhse Dosti Karoge’ happened and that’s when I met Adi first time professionally. He told me that I’m doing a couple of crap films and that people have pressured him not to take me because they think you don’t have the equity for a Yash Raj film but Adi had belief in my talent and me and thought that I was good for the part.”

Also on the show was Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who designed Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s wedding outfits. He compared the love story of the newly weds to Chopra and the ‘Mardaani’ (2015) actress. “There was a lot of pressure on Virat and Anushka like there was pressure on Rani and Aditya when they were getting married.” During the time the couple were dating, a lot of interest surrounded their relationship status and if and when they were going to tie the knot.

Touching upon Chopra’s reserved nature, the ‘Talaash’ (2012) actress said, “It’s not as if he is paranoid about the cameras. He just doesn’t want to be photographed. He had told me after our marriage, ‘God when I fell in love with you, I didn’t stop to think that I was in love with an actress. Now, because of you, people are attaching my pictures to yours as well.’”

The couple also have a two year old daughter – Adira – who has been kept away from the media eye on purpose, saying she only wants their daughter to have a normal upbringing.  “I want Adira to grow up normally. (Otherwise) you get unwanted and undeserved attention without having achieved anything in life. I want Adira to be treated like any other child in school. Aditya and I don’t want her to be photographed constantly.”

The ‘Aiyyaa’ (2012) star was then asked the one thing she didn’t want her little girl to absorb from her father and she replied, “His immense passion for food.” Adding that Chopra had a huge passion for “Food and film”, though there was a third ‘F’ word. “Actually its’ three Fs – Food, Films and I will not spell out the third F.”

Mukerji is returning back on screen with ‘Hichki’ on the 23rd March. This will be her first film after four years.
