Rani Mukerji: “My choice of films has changed with the way I’ve grown up”

With her next film ready for release, Rani Mukerji’s ‘Hichki’ is creating all the right buzz with Mukerji playing a challenging role as a teacher with Tourette syndrome.

Talking about her role, Mukerji told Filmfare in an interview, “Its first film that has been such a huge tribute to teachers in the country because there is no profession more noble than teaching. You are imparting knowledge to the future of the country, to the future that is going to make a difference in the society. It’s our tribute to the teachers who have taught us. After watching the film, everyone is going to call their favourite teacher. This is going to happen a hundred per cent.”

Mukerji also elaborated on her journey from her first film ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat’ (1997) to ‘Hichki’, she said, “I started my career when I was sixteen. It’s been a journey where I have actually grown in this film industry, whatever I have learned, whatever experiences I have had, whatever I have learned from my work, I think this journey has been just wonderful. Of course, full of ups and downs which also teach you a lot. But also, my choice of films has also changed with the way I have grown up and each phase in my life whether it was early teenagers or late twenties, all have been part of my journey in the movie business. I have chosen a role which connected to me at that point of my life. And today the point of life and which I am, I think Hichki is very special film that connected with my soul and connected with what message I would like to give to India in a way or to tell the world that this is kind of films that India is churning.”

‘Hichki’ is out at cinemas on 23rd March 2018.
