Living legend Amitabh Bachchan celebrates his 70th birthday tonight and the who۪s who of Indian cinema are touted to be attending the event. Unfortunately, the stars du-jour۪ Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra will be unable to make it as they are away in Korea for the screening of Barfi!’ at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).
The screening of the film at the festival is a rare honour for both makers UTV and Kapoor and Chopra as BIFF is one of the most significant film festivals in Asia. The screening date had been announced some time back so both Chopra and Kapoor had no choice but to skip Bachchan۪s big bash.
Barfi!۪ has surprisingly proven to be a landmark film for both stars as it has won praise unanimously across the board and made a significant amount of money at the box office – even crossing the coveted 100 crore mark.
Directed by Anurag Basu, the film sees Kapoor as a deaf-mute Chaplinesque۪ character called Murphy while Chopra plays an autistic character, Jhilmil. It also stars newcomer Ileana D۪Cruz as the film۪s narrator and the third angle of an unusual love triangle.
