Ranbir Kapoor is a football enthusiast so it will come as little surprise that the actor has planned to buy a team for the forthcoming Indian Super League – India’s first football league. The name of the team, which Kapoor will own with chartered accountant Bimal Parekh, has come to light as Mumbai City FC, BizAsia has learnt.

An official at the district football association has confirmed to Goal, “We have received a letter from the Mumbai franchisee and they have requested to be listed in the MDFA under the name of Mumbai City FC'”.

The Indian Super League (ISL) Mumbai have decided to register with the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) and it seems Kapoor and Parekh will be the Mumbai franchisees.

The final decision on whether Mumbai City FC will be accepted as the Mumbai franchisees will be made this weekend and the MDFA will be looking at various things such as financial backing and and infrastructure.
