Ram Gopal Verma accused of fraud over ‘Department’

Ram Gopal Verma seems tohave his fair share of ups and downs regarding his movies. This time a police complaint has been filed against him for fraud over hisforthcoming film Department’.

According to theTimes of India screenplay-script writer Danish Raza has accused Verma of not paying him for his screenplay for the film. Raza states that he was approached by some of Verma۪s team members for a script for the film, “I met them, they looked at some of my scripts, liked my work and asked me to start work on the film,” says Raza. He started with the draft of the story and after many meetings sent the first draft on 19th July 2010, which he states was “okayed”.

The screenplay-writer adds how he had various meetings with Verma, who had edited and worked on a few scenes, and fixed a salary but did not provide a hard copy contract. As a result, I stopped work and they sent me a soft copy of the contract via mail. Now I felt that they will sign the contract and I kept waiting for the hard copy which never happened and they stopped taking my calls,۝ Raza added.

A few months after this, Raza was told that Verma had stopped the project due to financial issues and was beginning his next project. Raza went his own way to start another venture, only to find promos of۪ Department۪ on his screens, which led to the police complaint on 7thMay 2012. Raza explains, I have got all the evidence, copies of all the mails exchanged and contract mails they sent me. Then I have also got the hard copy of the script with corrections in Ramu’s handwriting,”

Verma declares he has no idea who this writer is and has no recollection of ever meeting him I am busy mixing these days a I don’t have the memory of coming across any such person. I meet at least five writers everyday. I have no idea, my office deals with all this.”

‘Department’ stars Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt and is due to release later this year.
