As the Rakhsa Bandhan festival is with us again, BizAsiaLive.com is focusing on the sisters this time. The sisters who always protect their brothers, who go above and beyond to do so. There have been a few in recent times which will always be remembered as strong women, protective of their brothers and families.

Priyanka Chopra as Ayesha in ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ (2015)
As Ayesha, Priyanka Chopra is seen as the daughter who is often forgotten and expected to be a certain way, playing to the stereotypes so popular in Asian families. However, not a wallflower as such, Chopra manages to support her brother Kabir – played by Ranveer Singh – even when he’s being illogical or particular in certain situations. She portrays a somewhat modern version of a sister who sticks with her brother no matter whether she agrees with his actions and thoughts or not. In return, he is seen doing the same.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Dalbir in ‘Sarbjit’ (2016)
Dalbir Kaur is a real-life sister who fought all the odds to bring justice to her brother Sarabjit Singh. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s portrayal as a sibling who is at the forefront of the fight with her family’s support and she is seen against all odds, forthright in her quest for the truth.

Divya Dutta as Isri Kaur in ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ (2013)
Divya Dutta as Milkha Singh’s sister is one character that truly touches your heart. She bears some of the most awful circumstances to bring up her younger brother and make sure he really makes something of his life. She is a depiction of strength and pride, being almost a mother to Singh – played by Farhan Akhtar.

Swara Bhasker as Rajkumari Chandrika in ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo’ (2015)
As the estranged sister of the character of Prem played by Salman Khan in ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo’, Swara Bhasker took on the role of the “black sheep” of the family somewhat. She stays away from the family but still holds a special place in her heart for them, even if she doesn’t show it. However, when the bridges are mended, she is seen brought into the family with much support.

Zaira Wasim as Insia in ‘Secret Superstar’ (2017)
When one thinks of Advait Chandan directed ‘Secret Superstar’, it’s probably not the first thing that comes to mind but Zaira Wasim’s character Insia plays a rather protective older sister to her brother Guddu. It’s something very touching in the story, as well as the way her brother looks out for her.
