With films such as ‘Rang De Basanti’ (2006) and ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ (2013) in his resume, there is no doubt that the audience and industry alike are excited to see what filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has planned for his upcoming film, ‘Mirziya’.

In a recent interview withMid Day, Mehra stated, “It’s an intense love story and the writing is deep. Gulzar has written the story. It looks simple, but has many layers to it. It’s a romantic drama and has high-octane action. I always wanted to do something like this. I think it is every filmmaker’s dream to get into this territory (of romance). During the shoot, I rediscovered love. The whole journey was fascinating.”

‘Mirziya’ is inspired by the Mirza-Sahiban folklore. Mehra had come across the folklore during his college days and it stayed with him, untilone day he started to discuss it with Gulzar and they soon had a script ready.

The film will mark the debut of Anil Kapoor’s son, Harshvardhan Kapoor, and Shabana Azmi’s niece, Saiyami Kher. It is slated for release in 2016.
