Rajkummar Rao on ‘Stree’ entering 100 crore club

Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s latest release ‘Stree’ (2018) recently entered the 100 crore club. The film which is a horror-comedy has certainly entertained the audiences, Rao shares his delight of the box office hit.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, when asked how he felt about ‘Stree’ (2018) now a part of the 100 crore club, the versatile actor said he was “overwhelmed”. “It’s definitely overwhelming. It means there are so many people who have watched our film. We made Stree with a lot of love and purity and when people can feel that same love for the film, it’s the best feeling. I am very happy that a good film with good intentions like Stree has made 100 plus. It’s a good sign for our cinema where our audiences are ready to welcome different content and it’s only because of them that we feel empowered to make what we believe in.”

So what did Rao think was the reason the film being received so well by everyone? “The unique combination of horror and comedy and such different content has connected with the audience. I know so many people who have seen it twice and thrice. That shows the amount of love our film is getting.”

Asked if the industry will perceive him differently now as an actor following the success of ‘Stree’ (2018), Rao replied, “Well, a few things definitely change when a film becomes a big a success but what those things are, I am still trying to figure out because nothing has changed in me. I still love my work the same way when I just began.”

Known for choosing unconventional films and great acting abilities, has made Rao stand out from the crowd and given him the title of being a game-changer, the ‘Newton’ (2017) actor gives his reaction on this, saying, “It’s overwhelming. I’ve always believed in listening to my heart without connecting too many dots and whenever I didn’t listen to my gut feeling it didn’t work for me and that’s what I want to continue doing. To keep pushing myself to do more exciting work. This success is everyone’s success, people who believe in their dreams and vision. It’s a humble beginning but I just want to enjoy the journey without thinking too much about the result.”

‘Stree’ (2018) also features Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana and Abhishek Banerjee. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the film is based on the ghost of ‘STREE’, who kidnaps eligible bachelors by her aura, leaving only a trail of their clothes behind.
