Rajkummar Rao: “I don’t see my real self in the mirror”

Rajkummar Rao is giving his all to each and every one of his characters, with major transformations from one character to the other. For his upcoming web series ‘Bose’, Rao gained 11 kgs, and with all the various transformations he is portraying in his films, Rao says he doesn’t see himself in the mirror, but his character.

Hindustan Times reports Rao saying, “I want to push the envelope and nothing else. If my character demands me to lose or gain weight, I just do it. That’s what I expect from myself and what people expect from me, and I’ve been doing that. I’m not doing anything extraordinary. Gaining or losing weight, or shaving my head, it’s all part of the job and nothing extra. When I used to look at myself in the mirror and see my head shaved in half and that tummy, I felt food. As an actor, it helps internalize the drive. I don’t see my real self in the mirror, but my character.”

Rao was last seen in ‘Newton’ (2017), which was selected as India’s official entry for the ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ category for the upcoming 90th Academy Awards.
