Rajkumar Hirani opens up about Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s success

Garnering praises for his performance as Ganesh Gaitonde in the web series ‘Sacred Games’, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has once again proven his acting prowess.

Having done films like ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ (2012), ‘Kahaani’ (2012), ‘Talaash’ (2012), ‘Badlapur’ (2015), ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ (2015), ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’ (2016), ‘Raees’ (2017) and others, Siddiqui has carved his own place, remaining a consistent force to be reckoned with.

Recalling the actor’s early days, and the scene in Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanjay Dutt starrer ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’, Hirani said, “People had to beat him up in that scene and they really did that! I told him ‘Nawaz you’ve done an amazing work, you’re a great actor!’ But in my head, I never thought that Nawazuddin Siddiqui would become such a huge actor that he is today.”

Siddiqui in the film played the role of a thief who tries to rob Sunil Dutt’s character only to be caught and attacked with public rage. With four releases this year, Siddiqui will next be seen in Nandita Das’ ‘Manto’. Also starring Rasika Dugal and Tahir Bhasin in central roles the film is a biopic, of renowned writer Saadat Hassan Manto.

Hirani on the other hand after the success of Sanju (2018) is currently producing ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’ starring father-daughter duo, Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, Juhi Chawla and Rajkummar Rao.
