RAJAR to trial new measuring method

Radio audience measuring body RAJAR is set to pilot a new methodology as an alternative to its old-fashioned diary-based ratings system.

Since 2001, RAJAR has invested 3.5m on trialling various electronic audience measurement systems.

But a two-year trial of “portable people meters” which was due to continue until the beginning of next year will be cut short in June.

The audience measurement body will also pilot an online version of its “pen and paper” diary system, which is currently filled out by a total of 130,000 people each year.

RAJAR hopes the web system will be faster, cheaper and more flexible than the existing survey, allowing it to produce more data, quicker.
