RAJAR: BBC Asian Network loses nearly 40k; Panjab Radio adds 20k

The BBC Asian Network nearly 40,000 listeners each in latest official radio listening data for Q3/24.

Figures published today by RAJAR kept the BBC Asian Network at No.1 as the UK’s leading Asian radio broadcaster with 609,000 – down by 35,000 from 644,000. Meanwhile, Sunrise Radio National added 11,000 listeners, taking its reach to 370,000.

Sunrise Radio in Greater London added 5,000 in its weekly reach – up from 146,000 to 151,000. Its average listening hours per listener remained at 4.2m while Sunrise Smooth was up by 6,000 from 38,000 to 44,000.

Panjab Radio witnessed an incline with its reach up by 22,000 from 82,000 to 104,000. Its average listening hours per listener dropped from 8.9 to 6.4.

Surjit Singh Ghuman MBE – Managing Director, Panjab Radio said, “Following the release of the latest RAJAR quarterly data, I am delighted to report amazing growth for Panjab Radio, our weekly reach has increased by a massive 27% from 82,000 to 104,000 15+ adults and our listening hours are still higher than any of the other Asian Stations, with listeners tuning in for an average of 6.4 hours to our engaging and relevant content, making us the Number 1 most listened to Asian station. It’s gratifying that our continued investment in our programming continues to reap rewards.”

Also in Greater London, the Lyca Group consisting of Lyca Radio and Lyca Gold emerged as the No.1 Asian commercial radio network in the region. The group recorded a reach of 184,000 – up from 176,000 in the previous quarter.

As standalone serviceS, Lyca Radio increased by 8,000 to 122,000, with average listening hours per listener dropping from 5.1 to 4.3. Lyca Radio closed the gap with rival Sunrise Radio, with just 29,000 listeners between them. Sister station, Lyca Gold was down slightly from 83,000 to 80,000, with average hours per listener remaining at 6.3.
