Raja Krishna Menon: “I have not signed Ranbir, neither have I met him”

There is speculation that Raja Krishna Menon is looking to sign Ranbir Kapoor for is upcoming thriller drama, but the ‘Airlift’ (2016) director has denied all rumours.

In an interview with Times Of India, Menon who is a fan of Kapoor, said they were planning on meeting, but this didn’t happen. “I have not signed Ranbir, neither have I even met him. Yes, we were supposed to meet for a coffee. I think he is a wonderful actor. But anyway, that did not happen because we both got busy. The rest is all speculation.”

Asked if he was considering Kapoor for the script, Menon replied, “Well, so far, I have not considered anyone. I just finished writing the script a few days ago. However, I would love to work with Ranbir because he is an interesting actor. But both should mutually find the right script for that.”

Reflecting back to most recent release this year ‘Chef’ (2017), the film didn’t fair to well at the box office, but is doing well on digital platforms instead. “You know, it is interesting how the film is doing so well on the digital platform now. I think we failed to target our potential audience. The story of the film was different; it was a journey and relationship between father and son. I am glad for all the appreciation that it has received,” said Menon.

Last year Menon produced ‘Airlift’ (2016) which was based on true events and also led to Akshay Kumar winning a National Award for his performance. So does Menon prefer making film on real life incidents? “I think working on real life incidents has more responsibility, whereas fictional story has creative challenges as it comes from imagination and does not exist in reality,” explains Menon.

With that said, Menon was asked if his upcoming thriller drama was a mix of both fact and fiction? “I am honestly speaking, I get confused by genre these days. Yes, it is a fictional story, it has elements of drama and thriller both. So, we can call it a thriller drama.”
