Raj Thackeray’s political party threatens release of ‘Abir Gulaal’ due to Pakistani actor Fawad Khan
Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has threatened to block the release of ‘Abir Gulaal’ due to the involvement of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan.
The teaser for the film, which also stars Vaani Kapoor, was unveiled on Tuesday to an overwhelmingly positive response. However, Thackeray swiftly opposed its release, particularly in Maharashtra. MNS leader Ameya Khopkar echoed his sentiments, telling Dainik Bhaskar, “We only became aware of this film today when the makers announced it. But we want to make it clear that we will not allow its release in Maharashtra because it features a Pakistani actor. Under no circumstances will we permit such films to be screened in the state. We are gathering more information about the project and will issue a detailed statement soon.”

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam also weighed in on the controversy, stating, “There is deep-rooted resentment towards Pakistan in India. Whenever a Pakistani film is released, Indian audiences generally avoid watching it. Even when some people watch out of curiosity, Pakistani artists have never truly gained widespread acceptance in India.”
