Raj Baddhan & Amber win radio gongs at LAGA 2017

Sabras Radio’s Raj Baddhan and Amber walked away with the Best Male Radio Presenter and Best Female Radio Presenter at the first ever Leicester Asian Glitz Awards (LAGAs 2017).

Raj Baddhan, who has been presenting the station’s ‘Drivetime’ show since 2005, was named Best Male Radio Presenter beating off competition from other Sabras Radio presenters in the same category. Baddhan also manages Sabras Radio and upon accepting the award said, “I’d like to thank Jays Entertainment for putting on an excellent night.Thanks to my parents for giving me an award-winning voice and above all thanks to the listeners and clients for giving Sabras Radio the love and support that has given Sabras Radio the edge over the past 21 years.” He also praised his Sabras Radio team and teased the audience of an exciting year ahead.

Similarly, Amber who helms the ‘Mid-Morning Show’ was declared the winner in the female category for her work on the flagship late morning show. Incidentally, Amber also won the prestigious Hindi Samman UK, 2016 in Electronic media Broadcasting-Journalism (contribution in Hindi) for over 23 years.

Akshay Patel was named Runner Up in the Best Male Radio Presenter gong. Patel has been with the station for nearly 17 years and targets the youth with his weekly Saturday night ‘Desi Mash Up’ show. Another favourite, Tina Kaur was handed the Runner Up prize in the Best Female Radio Presenter category for her work at the station over the past four years. After starting off in the weekday ‘Afternoon Delights’ show, she now fronts ‘Sunday Soothers’ weekly.

The late Sabras Radio personality, Faruk Razak was given a touching tribute by Vinod Popat. Sabras Radio presenters Jagdeep, Amber and Vishal Jogiya received the posthumous award on behalf of Razak’s family. Razak passed away a year ago after being in the forefront of Sabras Radio since it launched.

Kunal Raval, a former host of ‘Afternoon Delights’ on Sabras Radio was handed the ‘Best Radio Newcomer’ award.

Winners were decided on votes by the public through the Jays Entertainment website.

The black-tie event organised by Jay Kotak of Jays Entertainment was held at Ramgharia Hall, Leicester. It was hosted by Natasha Asghar from ZEE TV and Nicken Kotak.
