‘Raees’ has been surrounded by controversy for a few months now but one thing that director Rahul Dholakia is confident about is that demonetisation will not affect the film when it releases on January.

The film is set in the Gujarat state which is of course where Prime Minister Modi had much impact before he was elected to lead the country. Dholakia got candid in response, according to DNA, “It’s set in pre-Modi Gujarat which was very different. I’m not making a political statement here. Nor did I want to create any controversies. Raees is an entertaining commercial film which Mr Modi will enjoy as much as the common man”.

On the three-year journey the film has taken to complete, Dholakia said, “I don’t use the word ‘great’ to describe my work, so I’ll simply say I’m quite happy with the way the film has shaped up. For me the journey has always been more important than the end result and this one which has spanned almost five years for me has been fascinating”.

The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Mahira Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui and is scheduled to release on 26th January 2017.
