Radio programme looks at history of Asians in police force

A programme on BBC Radio Scotland will chart the history of Asian and BME (Black and Ethinc Minority) officers in the Scottish Police Forces.

Producer and presenter Ravi Sagoo looks at 40 years since Dilawer Singh joined Strathclyde Police Force in 1968 making him Scotland’s first Asian police officer.

The programme will show that joining as an Asian was a challenge in being accepted after he was questioned by a superior about wearing a turban, alongside racism in the line of duty.

Ravi Sagoo is a former BBC new talent winner and has been a regular presenter on BBC Radio Scotland across music and sport and also on The BBC Asian Network. He also has the third series of the Asian Urban music programme ̢ Ravi Sagoo & Tigerstyle Presents̢ _̢ airing this summer on BBC Radio Scotland.
