Radio 1’s Bobby & Nihal shifted to late night slot

BBC Radio 1’s popular duo Bobby and Nihal will be shifted to a later time slot in a programming shake-up on the station in September.

Come 25th September, Bobby and Nihal’s Brit Asian music show will move from the current Wednesday 21:00 slot to Tuesday midnight.

According to RAJAR, in the last quarter, listeners for the show had dropped by a margin from half a million previously to 410,000. The BBC denied rumours that the programme was being moved because of the decline in listeners.

Ian Parkinson, Head of Specialist Music and Speech, Radio 1, said: “It’s important for the schedule to keep evolving to keep pace with the musical passions of our young audience which is why we’ve made these changes.

In other changes on Radio 1, Colin Murray will ‘break away’ from his long term on air partner Edith Bowman, for a new weeknight show. There will also be an introduction of four ‘In New Music We Trust’ shows hosted by some of Radio 1’s key musical experts.

Bobby Friction also fronts the BBC Asian Network’s late night show at 22:00.
