Raaj FM in breach of Sandwell Council regulations

The controversy surrounding Midlands based community radio station, Raaj FM shows no sign of dying down as Sandwell Council have confirmed in an email that Raaj FM were in breach of their lease regarding their property.

Allegations had been made on MATV that Raaj FM were illegally subletting their council premises against the terms of their lease. This prompted action in the form of an investigation by Sandwell Council.

Sandwell Council confirmed in an email that “Cabinet Member for jobs and economy Cllr Ian Jones said, “The council’s investigation found that they were in breach of the terms of the lease and we have directed them to take action to conform to those conditions immediately. We will be monitoring that and will keep the complainant informed.”

Allegations were made against Raaj FM on the programme ‘Live with Harjap’ on MATV a few weeks ago (seen earlier in an article on BizAsia.co.uk). Subsequently ex-presenters Upinder Randhawa (now a presenter at Sangat TV), Sat Matharu and Kully Behgal (presenters with Raaj FM up until last week) have also appeared on the TV programme and made certain allegations, with the main one being the non-payment of presenters and unpaid commissions.

Since BizAsia.co.uk exclusively broke the story Raaj FM have not clarified or answered the allegations to any form of media despite being contacted on many occasions. No comments have been made by Raaj FM regarding the allegations.

MATV confirmed that the Director of Raaj FM, Gajjan Singh, had contacted them on Friday stating he wanted a meeting this Monday at MATV۪s studios, however he did not attend. MATV also confirmed that they had received a letter from Raaj FM۪s lawyers threatening them with an injunction to prevent Monday۪s show from airing and that MATV have replied to the same through their lawyers and have not heard anything since.
