PTC Punjabi to continue broadcasting Gurbani from Golden Temple

PTC Punjabi has been given the green light to continue broadcasting Gurbani from the Sri Harmandar Sahib (Golden Temple) until the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) sets up its own satellite channel.

On Tuesday, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur assured the SGPC full support in the committee’s request to expedite the process to launch the TV service. The religious body has already put its weight behind the successful Gurbani stream on its own YouTube channel.

The president of SGPC, Harjinder Singh Dhami said, “The Union Minister has been informed so that the process can be completed soon. There has been a long-standing demand of the ‘Sangat’ (community) from around the globe for establishing a channel and the SGPC is committed to fulfilling it.”

Rights for PTC Punjabi to broadcast Gurbani from the Golden Temple ended on 23rd July 2023. However, it will relay the Gurbani globally through this interim period. The TV channel run by G-Next Media Pvt Ltd, paid more than Rs 16 lakh per month last year to the SGPC for the telecast rights.

“We have requested PTC to continue telecasting Gurbani. We are awaiting their response. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami will take the final decision on this on Sunday,” said Harbhajan Singh, spokesman for SGPC.
