Probe launched into Republic TV & two others in alleged TRP manipulation

A probe has been launched by Mumbai Police after Republic TV and two other news broadcasters were accused of BARC TRP data manipulation in India.

NDTV reports say that officials of Republic TV will be summoned either today or tomorrow. Two people have already been arrested.

Mumbai Police chief, Param Bir Singh said a thorough investigation will look into bank accounts of the channels and “whether they are from proceeds of crimes”.

The chief said that households had been given Rs. 500 for watching these channels, in return for higher ratings.

In response, Republic TV said it will fight back and “sue Mumbai cops”.
