It has been said that Priyanka Chopra has opted out of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next, a biopic on Sahir Ludhianvi, when in actual fact Chopra had expressed interest towards this film initially.
Reported in the Deccan Chronicle, there is speculation that Chopra wanted to co-produce this film with Bhansali, but when he wasn’t able to give her this opportunity she declined to be a part of the film. A source lose to the project said, “She was to play Amrita Pritam, who had a very special place in Sahir Ludhianvi’s life. In fact, she was so excited with the project that she wanted to co-produce it with Bhansali. But when he expressed an inability to let her come on board as a producer, she began to lose interest in the project. Finally, she told Bhansali she would rather not do a film where she was not the lead.”
There are other rumours suggesting that the ‘Quantico’ star is slowly moving away from Bollywood to concentrate on her Hollywood career instead. Chopra’s last film was Prakash Jha’s ‘Jai Gangaajal’ (2016), which didn’t fair well at the box office. “We don’t see any sign of Priyanka taking up any Bollywood film in the near future. She has signed no film in Bollywood. But she has completed two films in Hollywood and is working on another Hollywood project at the moment,” said a filmmaker friend of Chopra.
