Priyanka Chopra to terminate contract with Nirav Modi?

Priyanka Chopra is hoping to distance herself from jeweller Nirav Modi and his brand, amid accusations of financial fraud committed by his company.

Initial reports claimed that Chopra, who is a global brand ambassador for the brand, is suing Modi over non-payment, but recent clarifications suggest that she is only interested in cancelling her endorsement contract with the company. According to a statement issued by Chopra’s spokesperson, “There are speculative reports that Priyanka Chopra has sued Nirav Modi. This is not true. However, she is currently seeking legal opinion with respect to terminating her contract with the brand in light of allegations of financial fraud against Nirav Modi.”

Reports suggesting that Sidharth Malhotra is also looking into legal termination of his contract with Nirav Modi have also been refuted. “His contract with the brand expired last year itself. So, there is no issue of non-payment,” a source revealed to The Indian Express.

Modi has been accused of credit fraud amounting to approximately USD 1.77 billion (Rs. 11,400 crore), as per a complaint filed by Punjab National Bank to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
