Priyanka Chopra Jonas on leaving Bollywood: “I had beef with people”

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has revealed why she opted to relocate to the US after leaving her India film industry friends behind.

The actress, who has her upcoming ‘Love Again’ ready for release, crossed over to Hollywood in 2012 with her first single ‘In My City’. This followed with a number of other huge projects including ‘Quantico’ in 2015 on ABC.

Now, talking to Dax Shepard in a podcast, Chopra Jonas admitted she left Bollywood due to “beef with people”. Without going into details, she said she was tired of the politics in the Hindi film industry.

Shepard asked her, “So how do you decide you want to even put yourself through that? Why’d you decide to put yourself through that and then what was it?” Chopra Jonas responded, “I’ve never said this so I’m going to say it because you’ll make me feel safe.”

She added, “I was being pushed into a corner in the industry (Bollywood). I had people not casting me, I had beef with people, I am not good at playing that game so I kind of was tired of the politics and I said I needed a break.”

Talking about her music break, she said the opportunity came at the time when she was seeking a change from her Bollywood career, “This music thing gave me an opportunity to go into another part of the world, not crave for the movies I didn’t want to get but I would require to schmooze certain clubs and cliques of people. It would require grovelling and I had worked a long time by then that I didn’t feel like I wanted to do it.”

She further stated, “So, when this music thing came, I was like ‘f*** it, I am going to America’.”
