Priyanka Chopra on Bollywood stereotypes in Hollywood

Priyanka Chopra has called for more diversity in Hollywood.  The actress believes stereotypes still exist in the west about Bollywood and wants this to change.

The actress, who is geared up for the release of her first Hollywood movie, has spoken out about the preconceptions Hollywood has about the Indian film industry.  “There are huge stereotypes about India, about Hindi films. There is a lot more awareness now that Hindi movies are such a big industry but the stereotypes still exist,” said the actress as reported by Times of India.

Whilst the actress believes Hollywood now sees beyond the song and dance of Bollywood films, she says it is down to actors and actresses in breaking those barriers and stereotypes.   “Those are stereotypes you have to fight all the time and I guess it will only come with educating people and having them see Indian actors in mainstream parts, that we can do this. There is no putting us in a box. But it is going to be a struggle. There are so few of us”, she added.

The actress went on to add she would love to see a female lead playing James Bond and for actors and actresses to challenge preconceptions.

Chopra will be seen in ‘Baywatch’ which has just released and will release in India on Friday 2nd June.
