Priya Prakash Varrier embroiled in controversy over ‘Oru Adaar Love’ song

Malayalam star Priya Prakash Varrier on Monday, filed a plea to the Supreme Court of India over the case that has been registered against the upcoming debut film, ‘Oru Adaar Love’ in Telangana.

Recently, a complaint had been filed against Omar Lulu, the director of the film, which marks the film debut of 18-year-old Varrier, reports DNA India.

The complaint against Lulu alleged that the song “Manikya Malaraya Poovi” from the movie, which went viral just before Valentine’s Day, was disrespectful to the Muslim community. The main objection was against the lyrics of the song which, according to the complaint, are offensive towards the Prophet Muhammed’s wife.

A case was registered against the director, seeking deletion of the song. Lulu had then clarified that the song is in no manner offensive to anyone and that they’re not planning to delete it from the film as of now. He had also stated that the CBFC will take the final call in the matter.

Meanwhile, Varrier has filed a plea in the Supreme Court, on the case registered against the movie, as confirmed by ANI News.

Varrier became an overnight sensation after a 29-second video clip from the song “Manikya Malaraya Poovi” went viral around Valentine’s Day this year. The video shows her arching her eyebrows, winking and then blushing coyly at a boy who crushes on her in school.

‘Oru Adaar Love’ is due for release later this year.
