Power failure forces BBC radio off-air

The BBC Asian Network was forced off air this morning after a major power failure hit the station’s flagship film show ‘Love Bollywood’.

The problem occurred around 10:45 when the show was discussing the turbulent relationship of Bollywood stars Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone.

Whilst full details of what actually happened remain sketchy, it was announced by the station that the Asian Network was not the only BBC station affected. BBC Radio 1 and BBC 1Xtra, which also broadcast from the same studios in Central London were also severely affected.

It was only last week; ‘Love Bollywood’ was re-homed to Yalding House (near to BBC Broadcasting House) after presenting from Birmingham and White City studios previously.

At the time of the incident, BBC Asian Network’s digital broadcast on DAB and Sky had to switch to an ’emergency tape’, which is only used at a time of a crisis. The analogue broadcast in the Midlands was taken over by presenter Noreen, who was scheduled to start her own chart show from the Birmingham studios at midday. For the remainder of ‘Love Bollywood’ she played back-to-back Bollywood music with a live link to ‘Love Bollywood’ presenters Raj and Pablo in London. They are expected to return as normal tomorrow.
