Sanjay Leela Bhansali has scrapped plans for a jugalbandi dance between Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra in ‘Bajirao Mastani’.
Apparently, there were plans to recreate a ‘Dola Re’ type of dance like the one in ‘Devdas’ by Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. However, Mumbai Mirror reports that Kathak maestro, Pandit Birju Maharaj who was supposed to direct the classical dance number in ‘Bajirao Mastani’ saying, “Sanjay was having second thoughts about this jugalbandi and I will choreograph Deepika in a solo act which is a more contemporary adaptation of one of my own performances set on an Avadhi- Brijwasi thumri, Balma re chunaria maiko lal.”
Maharaj added, “There’s a lot of lal rang in the song with Deepika dressed in fiery red, her head demurely covered by a ghoonghat but her eyes flashing fire.”
‘Bajirao Mastani’ releases this December.
