Having been catapulted to fame in 2011’s ‘Patiala House’, in which he played Akshay Kumar’s brother, Armaan Kirmani tried his hand at producing and directing with his debut venture, ‘Soulmates’ (2012). The film released in March and the actor-producer-director took it to Cannes Film Festival 2012 in May after the film was selected for screening.
BizAsia spoke to Kirmani when he returned from the festival and he spoke about his experience and how much it meant that he was able to take his film to such a prestigious event, “I think being selected at Cannes is an enormous achievement for me as a first time director but I think it is even more exciting for British Asian film makers. Hopefully I can encourage more young film makers to make films.”
He continued, “I see this as the beginning of a new journey and an end to the first stage of struggle. We all look for recognition as artists and now that Cannes has given us that, the new struggle to make great cinema begins”.
