Panjab Radio’s Surjit Ghuman nominated as “hero of community” by listener

Panjab Radio’s Managing Director, Surjit Singh Ghuman MBE, has been branded a “hero” by a listener in a feature published in the Metro newspaper.

In the segment where readers were asked to nominate their hero during the coronavirus crisis, a listener by the name of Balvinder Kaur Saund praised Ghuman for his hard work and support to the elderly.

The full note published in the paper said, “A group of us would like to nominate Surjit Singh Ghuman as hero of our community during the lockdown. He runs Panjab Radio from West London and is on air twice a day to support and advise the community. He’s helped people in India and here in the UK to get back home, delivered medicines and food to those in need., and is a genuinely good soul, calming elderly people and keeping them in a positive mood by talking to them, letting them sing or recite poetry on-air. Many elderly see him as a saviour who lifts their mood and cajoles them to stay indoors and gives cooking tips and health advice. Like clockwork, he’s on air at 9am and 1pm, and thousands of people see him as their lifeline. He deserves a shout and a thank you.”

Panjab Radio is available on 558AM in Greater London and boasts of an audience of 75,000 listeners (weekly reach for Q1/20).
