Pakistan’s Hum TV to launch in UK
Pakistan’s popular entertainment channel, Hum TV is expected to be launching on the Sky Digital platform in the coming days.
BizAsia understands that the Pakistani broadcaster has been eyeing to launch in the UK for several months but had deferred its plans due to the saturated market and high costs. Hum TV had since signed a syndication deal with IndiaCast (Viacom18) to broadcast its shows on its Rishtey channel in UK.
According to official data, the Pakistani dramas Rishtey has been broadcasting from Hum TV including ‘Humsafar’, ‘Mere Qatil Mere Dildar’, ‘Mera Naseeb’ and ‘Maat’ have all performed exceptionally well. They have regularly attracted the biggest ratings on Rishtey during the weekend schedule.
Rumour has it that the channel could launch imminently on the Sky Digital platform in UK/Europe. A spokesperson from Hum TV confirmed the news to BizAsia.
In the UK, ARY Digital, Geo UK, Prime TV and PTV Global dominate the Pakistani TV market.
