Pakistan was plunged into darkness after a major power outage, resulting in millions of people without any electric.

Taking to Twitter, Power Minister Omar Ayub Khan said, “A countrywide blackout has been caused by a sudden plunge in the frequency in the power transmission system.”

A few hours later, service was restored in various parts of country. Mr Khan said that the breakdown was caused after the frequency in the national power distribution system abruptly fell from 50 to zero, according to Sky News.

Mr Khan reassured the public that it was a technical glitch and appealed to them to stay calm despite hysteria among people in Karachi.

He said, “There is a lot of fear. Sometimes just one or two cities lose power but we can’t understand why all of Pakistan has lost power.
