‘PadMan’ team to host emergency meeting with ‘Padmavati’ producers?

Akshay Kumar’s ‘PadMan’ and Deepika Padukone’s ‘Padmavati’ are reportedly scheduled to go head to head at the box office. While ‘Padmavati’ has been awaiting release, the release of ‘PadMan’ was moved forward a day. If reports are to be believed, the ‘PadMan’ team has called an emergency meeting with Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, the producers of ‘Padmavati’.

SKJ Bollywood News reports a source close to ‘PadMan’ saying, “This is madness! Why January 25th, for God’s sake? They (Padmavati) can come a week earlier or a week later when there are no significant releases. Why Republic Day? We will try to reason with them, make them understand why it’s insane to pitch the two films on the same Friday. If they don’t listen we’ll still go ahead with our release on January 25th.”

Although, it looks like theater chains seem to be clueless about the release of ‘Padmavati’. A leading personnel from a Mumbai Multiplex also told SKJ Bollywood News, “We have no information on the release of Padmavati on January 25th as yet. We’re waiting for the official announcement. If this is really true, then we would have to re-structure the entire tentative screening schedule for Republic Day. Ideally, Padmavati would get all the 5000-odd screens. But now, it will get approximately 2500 screens. PadMan which would have otherwise got most of the screens has now to be content with only 2500 screens.”

Earlier ‘PadMan’ was also scheduled to clash with Sidharth Malhotra’s ‘Aiyaary’ on 26th January, which led to ‘PadMan’ being moved a day earlier to the 25th, but ‘Aiyaary’ has been shifted to release on 9th February.
