‘Padmaavat’ producers fight against online leak

Viacom 18, co-producers of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’ (2018) are now facing a battle against an online leak of the film.

The production company has filed complaints with the cyber crime cells of Maharashtra, Chandigarh and Delhi. A spokesperson from Viacom 18 told Mid-Day that “The cyber crime cells across the respective states have been extremely co-operative and have begun a thorough investigation into the matter. We hope that the authorities take strict and immediate action.”

Several file-sharing sources have already been blocked by the cyber crime cells. “The officials have been tracking the usual pirates. At some point, they will attempt to make pirated DVDs. The cyber cell has alerted their stringers about it, so they will be nabbed if they try it.”, revealed a source from the cyber cell. “’Padmaavat’ was uploaded on 35 websites on Torrent and the cyber cell has pulled it down from each of them. Since most of these websites use payment methods, it will be easy to track the source.”

Despite the piracy, ‘Padmaavat’ is doing well at the box office with almost Rs. 150 crore in first week collections.
