The final of this year’s World Cup 2014 attracted over 20 million viewers last night in the UK, making it impossible for UK Asian TV channels to compete for eyeballs.

According to exclusive data obtained by BizAsia, Star Plus and Colors suffered in a big way last night. Luckily, Star Plus did away with the repeat telecast of Star Guild Awards between 20:00 and 23:30 with an average audience of 16,200 viewers – peaking at 37,900 viewers.

Colors, on the other hand had original shows with the second part of Shah Rukh Khan on ‘The Anupum Kher Show’ attracting just 1,200 viewers – down from the debut episode last week, which raked in over 40,000 viewers. Incidentally, it was at 20:00 last night the World Cup Final between Germany and Argentina got underway. ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ at 21:00 managed just 27,500 viewers and ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ bringing in 25,000 viewers at 22:30.

On Rishtey, discussion show ‘Aamna Saamna’ at 21:30 pulled in a respectable 45,000 viewers and Pakistani show ‘Aasmano Pe Likha Hai’ garnered 13,600 viewers.

The World TV Premiere of ‘O Teri’ starring Pulkit Samrat on Star Gold at 20:00 last night raked in 6,400 viewers.
