The start of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil and the warm weather has managed to take a toll on viewership of many shows on UK Asian television, according to exclusive data obtained by BizAsia for Thursday.

While, ‘Ek Hasina Thi’ got record high ratings at 20:00 on Star Plus with 190,400 viewers, other shows were no match for the revenge thriller. ‘Mahabharat’ pulled in 148,600 viewers and ‘SaraswatiChandra’ bounced back up to third with 123,600 viewers. However, it was post 21:00 that shows witnessed the biggest fall in viewership. Incidentally, it was at 21:00 that the opening match between Brazil and Croatia kicked off, which was shown on BBC One and ITV1 in the UK.

The dependable show ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’, which regularly attracts the biggest viewership for Star Plus at 21:00, pulled in half its normal audience – 94,700 viewers, while subsequent shows ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’, ‘Pyar Ka Dard Hai’ and ‘Veera’ struggled to attract any higher than 70,000 viewers.

Similarly on Colors, ‘BeIntehaa’ could only muster in 35,400 viewers, while ‘Rangrasiya’ suffered with just 21,000 viewers tuning in at 21:30.

On Rishtey, ‘Laagi Tujhse Lagan’ was top with 56,800 viewers, ‘Parichay’ followed with 55,200 viewers. However, ‘Laado’ at 21:00 was down to just 22,200 viewers.
