World Cup 2014 dents Indian TV viewership

The ongoing FIFA World Cup, fused with good UK weather and Ramadan continued to take toll on Asian channels ratings, according to data for last night obtained exclusively by BizAsia.

The tournament, which is now in its crucial knock-out stages has played havoc on the schedules of UK Asian TV channels with most of the broadcasters losing viewers.

Star Plus’ top rated show was ‘Mahabharat’ pulling in just 130,400 viewers – peaking at 153,400 viewers at 20:30, followed by ‘Ek Hasina Thi’ with 100,200 viewers and ‘Saathiya’ in third with 97,400 viewers.

On Colors, ‘Uttaran’ was top with 38,200 viewers, followed by ‘BeIntehaa’ with 17,700 viewers and ‘Rangrasiya’ in third with 14,000 viewers.

On Rishtey, ‘Laagi Tujhse Lagan’ was most watched show on the channel with 55,000 viewers, ‘Chaal Sheh Aur Maat’ at 18:30 was second with 51,800 viewers at 18:30. In third place was ‘Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha’ at 19:00 with 35,000 viewers.

On Star Life Ok, ‘Gustakh Dil’ at 19:30 was the biggest draw on the channel with 12,800 viewers, followed by ‘Tumhari Paakhi’ with 9,700 viewers and ‘Ek Boond Ishq’ with 8,600 viewers.
