Overnights: Star Plus fictions work a treat on Saturday

Star Plus continues to lead in UK
Star Plus continues to lead in UK

Star Plus’ experiment to extend its weekday fictions to Saturday nights has worked a treat, according to overnight figures obtained exclusively by BizAsia.

BizAsia can reveal that the channel had a huge share and nearly twice the audience it normally attracts between 19:00 and 23:00 on Saturday nights. The new strategy will see all weeknight dramas from 18:30 – 23:00 being aired on Saturdays too. ‘SaraswatiChandra’ maintained its lead in the ratings, continuing with the wedding saga between Saras and Kumud. It pulled in an impressive 182,200 viewers at 19:30. In second place was ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’ with 176,700 viewers and ‘Pyar Ka Dard Hai’ with 159,200 viewers. ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ was the least watched show in the primetime schedule with just 53,400 viewers tuning in at 21:30.

The same success did not apply to Colors – its weekday fictions extending to Saturday nights proved a damp squib. The only show that did marginally well was ‘Sanskar’ at 19:00 bringing in 17,800 viewers. ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ was once again the dependable show to bring in the biggest viewership with 85,900 viewers, followed by ‘India’s Got Talent’ with 72,000 viewers.

On Rishty, discussion show ‘Aamne Saamne’ was top with 18,900 viewers, followed by Pakistani drama ‘Mera Naseeb’ being re-run with 13,400 viewers.

On Star Life Ok, ‘Savdhaan India’ got one of the biggest ever ratings with 80,900 viewers – peaking at 127,100 viewers.

On Zing, ‘Bollywood Families’ got one of the biggest ever ratings at 18:30 with 74,200 viewers – peaking at 99,000 viewers.

Above data is an overnight rating and may change slightly after consolidated figures become available in seven days from BARB.
