ARY News attracts record viewership for Pakistan elections

The Pakistan elections have helped give ARY News some of the best ratings in the UK, according to overnight figures obtained exclusively by BizAsia.

Data shows that ARY News averaged with an impressive 38,700 viewers during 08:00 and 20:00 yesterday – the main part of the elections coverage. The channel had several spikes with over 70,000 viewers tuning in at 16:00 and then again after 19:00. ARY News moved its regular programming to bring rolling coverage of the Pakistan elections all day. The first indication of projection results at around 18:00 saw around 61,000 viewers tune in to the channel.

Other Pakistani channels like Geo News, Geo Tez, Prime TV and Dawn News (Takbeer TV) in the UK do not subscribe to BARB for official audience measuring data.

Over on Star Plus, ‘India’s Dancing Superstar’ was the most watched programme at 21:00 with 167,000 – peaking at 219,400 viewers. The spin-off show ‘Xtra Beats’ at 22:30 pulled in 126,700 viewers. ‘Arjun’ at 20:00 did well again with 132,800 viewers. ‘MasterChef India’ at 19:00 managed to get just 45,100 viewers.

On Rishtey, ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ at 21:30 attracted 97,900 viewers – peaking at a record 264,700 viewers. Pakistani drama ‘Humsafar’ at 20:30 got 84,200 viewers.

On ITV4, the latest Indian Premier League matches drew 191,900 viewers from 11:00 until 20:00.
