The launch of dance reality show ‘Nach Baliye 5’ last night gave Star Plus a significant boost between 21:00 and 23:30.

According to exclusive UK viewing data obtained by BizAsia from Attentional, the ‘Nach Baliye 5’ launch attracted more than double its normal audience for a typical Saturday night with 221,000 – peaking at nearly 300,000 during the course of the show.

Compared to data for last Saturday (22nd December), the Indian Television Awards attracted just 75,600, prior to this the slot was used for Saturday specials for dramas and movies and generally got the channel an average audience of around 50,000.

‘Nach Baliye 5’ was pitted against the finale of ‘SurKshetra’ on both Rishtey and Sahara One between 21:00 and 23:00. While ‘SurKshetra’ could not touch the high of ‘Nach Baliye 5’ audience, it still managed to push both channel in the ratings.

An audience of 67,800 tuned into Rishtey to watch the Pakistani contestant Nabeel Shaukat Ali being crowned the winner of the Indo-Pak musical series and a further 21,600 tuned in on Sahara One – peaking at 50,400 – one of the highest ever audiences for Sahara One for a non-fiction show.

Earlier in the evening, the World Food Awards broadcast on Star Plus got an average audience of 20,000 between 17:30 and 19:00. Its audience peaked at 45,900 with a share of 0.10 per cent.
